This is from the same storage research group that eventually produced Ceph, a distributed storage service that at its heart is an object/block storage system. (The S3/Swift object store, block device system, and network file system build on top of the underlying object storage system).

However, I've never heard of OBFS being used anywhere, Ceph or otherwise. Did anything ever come of it?
